When I was five years old, I was already surrounded by water, rather it was at the ocean on the boat of my father or by the canals in Amsterdam. After a long time of studying I packed my backpack and traveled to Hawaii, mostly because Hawaii is known for their watersport culture. Boating, surfing, water-skiing, Kayaking, Hawaii is the place to be when you love being surrounded by water.

I met some friends in a local town called Maui. I told them after all my experiences in Hawaii I wanted to do something new and exciting. They said oh you mean HOĀO? If that is the word, then YES! A few days after, I tried stand up paddling for the first time I definitely fell in love with the sport. After a couple of months I traveled back to the Netherlands.

As soon I was home, I thought I want to share this sport with the world and started my own Business. And yes, from the first moment I knew I wanted it to call it HOĀO. That is what HOĀO is all about, our ambition is to let everyone in the world experience an unforgettable adventure on the water.

I wanted to create a board that stands apart from the rest of the world. It needed to be of good quality, simple but with a Hawaiian touch.
